Most Active Buyers of 2019

May 28, 2020 by Hilda Martin Topics: Industry News, Mergers/Acquisitions, Real Estate Financing/Capital Markets, Revista News

In 2020, things are certainly changing a mile a minute. But let’s take a look back to 2019 and the investors who most actively acquired MOBs. Welltower takes the title acquiring $2.2 billion throughout the year, followed by MB Real Estate, Montecito and Anchor Health Properties. Welltower acquired several portfolios last year including one for $1.25B from CNL. Although covering all parts of the country and property profiles, MBRE, Montecito and Anchor Properties 2019 acquisitions were primarily in the Midwest and Southeast and made up of many premier physician group and surgery center assets.

In 2019, the top buyers are pretty evenly split between REITs and private investors. The 2020 lineup will likely look a little different as this tumultuous year continues and companies with funds secured seek potential opportunities in a less crowded buying market.
